Job Description

To assist the Building Standards Team in dealing with a range of Building Standards duties and to assist the Systems Technical Assistant with the registration of applications and associated tasks.

Whilst the Council wish to appoint a candidate with a HNC in a surveying, building or equivalent subject, consideration may however be given to candidates who have lesser qualifications/experience of Building Standards. In those circumstances it would be expected that such candidates undertake study in order to gain a professional qualification. Duties undertaken will be subject to experience and qualification.

 

Requirements

Under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Disclosure Check.

Responsibilities

Assist with the verification of Building Warrant and Completion Certificate submissions for small and minor domestic proposals.

Assist and provide cover for the Systems Technical Assistant during periods of leave and times of higher demand.

Undertake desk duty on a regular basis, providing information and advice to customers on Building Standards related matters.

Assist with the preparation of procedures for Building Standards in respect of reviewing and updating existing procedures and creation of any new procedures due to revised work practices. Also assisting with the preparation of the Annual Building Standards Verification report and other national and local submissions.

 

The Individual

Experience of working in an office environment

Knowledge of Building Standards legislation

HNC in a surveying, building or equivalent subject

Alternatively consideration will be given to candidates with substantial relevant experience

Excellent oral/written communication skills

Analytical approach

IT skills

Negotiating skills

Self confident and self motivated

Ability to handle pressure situations when dealing a wide variety of customers

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van

Ability to relate well with all levels of staff

Willingness to work in a demanding position where a flexible and corporate approach is required

Willingness to accept direction/delegation

A commitment to deliver quality services to agreed standards

Ability to work in open plan office

Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service

Ability to work in different office depending on service requirements

£17.37 per hour
