Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
Paste job purpose/about the role
Aberdeen is on a critical journey of a just transition towards sustainability, net zero, climate resilience and nature recovery. The Council's Strategic Place Planning cluster is seeking a temporary Climate Change Officer for its Climate and Environment Policy Service to help shape and delivery critical parts of that journey. The cluster's remit is to provide strategic leadership across the physical, social and economic activities used to maintain, regenerate and strengthen the place of Aberdeen. The experienced and dynamic officer will provide direction and co-ordination across the Council and City on matters relating to climate change, among other matters. The post holder will be required to engage and work in collaborative partnership across the Council, with statutory and non-statutory groups and organisations and the citizens of Aberdeen.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent) in Environment or a related discipline (e.g. Geography, Resource Management, etc.)
Membership of an appropriate professional body related to the demands of the post (e.g. IEMA)
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
Skills & Experience in:
- Effective communication and negotiation, including managing conflict
- Successful collaborative working with peers and stakeholders to achieve objectives
- Accessing and analysing data and information and producing cogent reports
- Workload and financial planning and management
- Use of ICT systems and programmes
Understanding of:
- Development, implementation, reporting and review of climate, sustainability and related policies, strategies, plans and projects
- Appropriate legislation, procedures, government advice and good practice
Commitment to:
- Making a difference/outcome focused where it counts
- A programme of Continuous Professional Development as required
