Based at South Links Caravan Site, Traill Drive, Montrose, DD10 8SW.
This job is Workstyle 1 – Fixed.
In this workstyle most of your time is spent undertaking the direct delivery of front-line services work. Depending on your role there may be a limited requirement to access a specific council location during the course of the working week if you are not delivering your service at a council location.
You will work 13.13 hours per week.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at Montrose Basin Local Nature Reserve (LNR). Montrose Basin LNR is an enclosed tidal estuary located on the east coast of Scotland as the River South Esk enters the North Sea, and adjacent to the town of Montrose. The LNR supports internationally important wintering populations of pink-footed geese, greylag geese, wigeon, redshank, knot, oystercatcher, and eider and holds many designations including Ramsar, SPA, SAC, and SSSI.
Wildfowling activity is managed through byelaws and takes place on the west of the reserve. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the natural environment to act as Wildfowling Warden to provide a wardening service for all wildfowling activity associated with the LNR.
As Wildfowling Warden, you will work a varied shift pattern based around sunrise and sunset, on part-time basis, throughout the peak of the wildfowling season from early September to mid-February. You will represent Angus Council, providing a point of contact for wildfowling on the reserve and support the issuing of wildfowling permits via Angus Council’s online booking system, as well as carrying out regular goose monitoring and reporting.
You will be required to work in partnership with NGOs such as Scottish Wildlife Trust and BASC as well as other stakeholders. You will be committed to ensuring all wildfowling regulations are adhered to, while creating a positive atmosphere and welcoming all wildfowling permit holders to the reserve.
This job is temporary until no later than 15th February 2027.
