Argyll and Bute Council’s Infrastructure Design Service invite Civil or Structural Engineers who meet the required criteria set out in the attached “Post Progression” document to apply for roles:

  • Graduate Engineer
  • Assistant Engineer
  • Engineer (Chartered or Incorporated)

Argyll and Bute Council’s Infrastructure Design Service comprises of a dynamic team of 12 Engineers and 6 Technicians at various levels. We run a variety of multi-disciplinary projects such as bridges, piers & harbours, coastal and flooding schemes as well as depot, landslides, roads, cemetery and car park developments.

Our projects are located across the whole of Argyll and Bute which includes 23 inhabited islands and they range from pounds to millions of pounds in cost. The projects include the commissioning and management of Professional Service contracts as well as design, tender for and supervise a wide range of construction contracts. In addition, we consult with members of the public and stakeholders to secure licences with SEPA, Marine Scotland, Crown Estates etc on a daily basis. Many projects are unique and the majority take schemes all the way from concept to completion.

We are currently recruiting for a Civil or Structural Graduate/Assistant/Engineer career progression post based at our Lochgilphead office.

The Council offers a range of benefits such as formal ICE training to assist you in achieving Professional Qualification (including payment of registration & annual fees), a flexible Pension scheme and flexi time.

The salary grading is LGE 9/10/11 (£31,990 – £44,272) depending on qualifications and ICE attributes obtained. The post allows progression from Graduate Engineer through attainment of ICE attributes to Assistant Engineer and to Engineer upon attaining either Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status within ICE.
