Media and Social Media Officer - fixed term until 16/05/2025
Waverley Court

Salary: £36,312 - £42,717
Hours: 36 per week

Are you searching for a new challenge in 2024? Can you create compelling news and online content and keep calm under the pressure of competing demands and tight timescales? Then, this might be the role for you.

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced individual to work as a Media and Social Media Officer in our multi-award-winning Communications team.

You will have excellent media relations skills and a strong understanding of the news agenda and the ability to spot a media story. Working across a wide variety of projects within the Transport and Environment portfolio, you will build positive relationships with journalists and be their first point of call for media enquiries.

Producing engaging creative social and digital content, you will proactively identify opportunities across all channels to promote the Council and its 700 services to our residents and other stakeholders.

You will work closely with elected members, senior managers and colleagues across the Council.

We can promise you an extremely challenging and varied role working in a fast-paced communications office in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.

We’re working hard to create a more flexible and modern organisation, giving colleagues more flexibility in how and where they work. As a team, we’re splitting our time between working from home, in the office and being out and about in the city.

This is a fixed-term post for maternity cover.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
