About the Role
We’re recruiting three Roads Operatives to join our Roads Service teams at Dumfries and Lockerbie. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving the region’s road network, working outdoors in a practical, hands‑on environment.
What You’ll Do
- Carry out a wide range of road maintenance and construction tasks
- Lay paving slabs, kerbs, concrete and asphalt
- Undertake drainage works
- Set up and remove temporary traffic management (signs, cones, barriers)
- Support winter maintenance, including gritting, snow clearance and flood response
- Summer standby; weather - flood response, general enquiries
- Operate plant and machinery such as rollers, mini excavators, disc cutters, tractors and breakers
What We’re Looking For
- Practical, hands‑on approach with a focus on safety
- Educated to SCQF Level 4 (e.g National Certificate/higher) or equivalent
- CSCS Card or commitment to obtain in 6 months
- Current and Valid Operative Level New Roads and Streetworks Qualification or commitment to obtain in 6 months.
- Have relevant Health and Safety Training in construction
- Ability to work as part of a team in all weather conditions
- A full driving licence is highly desirable
- Interest in gaining further qualifications – opportunities for goods vehicle training are available
