As part of our Summer of Sport & Game On funding programme, the Active Schools Team are looking for Active Schools Assistants to deliver, develop and grow opportunities to support children and young people to participate in sport in a fun, inclusive and safe environment.

 

The role will involve:

  • coaching extra curricular sports and delivering bespoke curriculum activity programmes, providing sport and physical activity opportunities to encourage increased participation.
  • supporting Active School Coordinators in programme delivery, developing pathways in sport, and administrative duties.
  • assisting with planning, management and delivery of interschool events across a range of sports.
  • mentoring and supporting young leaders as coaches, including senior pupils and students from further education.

 

KNOWLEDGE

 

The job holder must be educated to HNC level / SCQF Level 7 in a relevant discipline.

Must hold one National Governing Body Coaching qualification at a lead level.

Must have practical experience in sports coaching, including experience of leading and supporting other coaches and volunteers.

Must have experience of assisting in the organisation and delivery of events/festivals and of organising participation programmes.

Must have experience and understanding of marketing and promoting activities / programmes.

Weeks per year: 52

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £32,554.06 per annum. 

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Protected Adults and Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with Protected Adults and/or Children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Protected Adults and Children, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you. Once you have submitted your application and this has been processed you will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate.
