The Parental Employability Keyworker will support parents and kinship carers to participate and progress in employment, thereby increasing the income available to them and their families. You will take a key worker approach, working one to one and in small groups where appropriate, supporting parents to identify their goals and aspirations and enabling them to achieve these. The job also involves working with a wide range of partners and employers to identify parents/carers who would benefit from the programme and signpost as appropriate. A significant part of the role will be to support parents/carers already in work to enable them to progress into a better paid job or one with more hours. Understanding the needs and challenges faced by parents/carers, especially those facing barriers to sustaining employment, is necessary.
Experience of working with people from a minority ethnic background and those with a disability is desirable.
Driving licence is desirable as the job will involve work across the Midlothian area.

Essential
The jobholder should be educated to SCQF Level 6 or have sound knowledge/experience of lifelong learning and/or employability programmes and projects including delivery of one-to-one caseloads.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 18 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £15,722.88 per annum.
Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £31,445.76 per annum.
Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children or protected adults.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
