KNOWLEDGE
The Community Access Team supports adults with learning disabilities in the various communities of Midlothian. The team run programmes of activities which reflect and build upon the individual aspirations of the participants. These activities include; arts & crafts, cooking for healthy eating & running a café, participating in the local community, exercise and sports activities.
The Day Service Officers will take a lead role in organising community-based activities and supporting adults with a learning disability to participate in these activities. You will be required to work across a number of locations in Midlothian where these services are delivered. Working as part of a small team the Day Service Officers will be expected to work independently to plan and deliver positive outcomes for adults with learning disabilities. You will have key-working responsibilities for a number of service users and will be required to open and close community hubs as required.
Experience in social care is essential and experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities is highly desirable.
The Jobholder must have, or be committed to achieving, an SVQ level III in Social Care, and have practical experience working in a supportive role with service users. They need to be able to work without direct supervision and have a mature and self-reliant approach with the ability to respond to unplanned situations in a calm and flexible manner.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £32,554.06 per annum.
Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children and protected adults.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
