KNOWLEDGE:
The post holder must
- be educated to degree level or must working towards and obtain a degree level within an area related to early childhood learning and development which accords with the requirements of the Standard for Childhood Practice and meet SSSC registration requirements/ GTCS registration.
- Be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)/GTCS registered prior to appointment and maintain registration throughout the period of employment
- Ensure that a culturally sensitive approach is taken to early learning, development and care, ensuring that GIRFEC principles underpin their work at all times.
- Have an ability to motivate, initiate and develop new ideas and approaches along with an ability to support staff in effecting changes within the service
- Use resources imaginatively, using different approaches e.g. curriculum development and delivery, group work, develop tailored packages based on a needs assessment of the child
- Have a high degree of self-motivation and an ability to look for imaginative options and solutions.
- Plan, track and report on progress of individual children
- Good understanding of current Early Years pedagogy
- Good understanding of Curriculum for Excellence Early Level, Pre- Birth to Three
- Key role is contact with identified children attending the setting. Promoting children’s emotional wellbeing through interventions and modelling, e.g. use of praise and encouragement, positive feedback.
- Responsible for the impact of interventions on the care and early learning of individual children
- Significant experience of Realising the Ambition and Early Years Quality Framework to support and develop high quality pedagogy

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 21.60 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £26,080.81 per annum.
Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
