Midlothian Council Fire Safety Adviser
Midlothian Council are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual to undertake the important and fulfilling role of Fire Safety Adviser for the Local Authority.
This role holds a significant position within the Council and will work closely with all relevant duty holders to ensure they achieve compliance regards fire safety within their establishments.
Based within the Health, Safety & Resilience Team of Protective Services the position is key in ensuring the overall compliance of the Council with its statutory obligations and internal policies.
The role, which is considered suitable for job share, will be delivered on a hybrid working model giving the successful applicant the opportunity to work a mix of office and site based with some home working. Midlothian Council is a semi rural authority located immediately south of the City of Edinburgh and is the fastest growing Local Authority in Scotland.
With a range of buildings including new schools and modernised buildings in the property portfolio this will be a varied and fulfilling role for the correct candidate(s).
KNOWLEDGE
It is essential that the Jobholder is a corporate member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) and in addition s/he must hold a fire risk assessment qualification allowing access to the IFE Register of Fire Risk Assessors and Auditors.
Basic keyboarding skills and understanding of Microsoft database, spreadsheet and word processing applications are also essential, as is a broad experience of Fire Safety at a professional level, including the provision of advice on the technology of fire and practical working knowledge of fire risk assessments. The jobholder must also be competent in written report writing; able to communicate effectively at all levels; and have experience of working independently to achieve targets.
Experience of training the public or non-professionals in fire risk assessment and the use of CAD and computer packages to progress own workload is desirable. A period of time would be required once in post to establish contacts and operating protocols.

Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £39,128.74 per annum.
Responsibilities
Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee for this PSN Disclosure check will be met by you.
Please note that Disclosure Scotland has changed the way disclosure certificates are issued. You will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate.
