A degree in Social Work and registration with the SSSC as a Social Worker is essential a Diploma in Social Work with SSSC registration as a social worker is an acceptable alternative together with a Mental Health Officer academic qualification.

Mental Health Team

The essential qualifications for a Social Worker within the Mental Health Team are a degree in Social Work and registration with the SSSC as a Social Worker.  A diploma in Social Work with SSSC registration as a social worker is an acceptable alternative and a mental health officer qualification is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from registered social work students who are soon to qualify. 

Midlothian mental health social work team is based within the joint Midlothian mental health service at ‘number 11’ recovery hub in Dalkeith. We are co-located with health and third sector colleagues as well as the Justice social work service. Social workers within the mental health team are part of a fast paced and busy environment, working with people who have a diagnosed mental health problem and who are in need of signposting, assessing for social support or referral to other services. Social workers are also part of the adult support and protection duty system. We also provide the mental health officer service for Midlothian and there are opportunities to undertake this training once you are established within the team. 

There is a flexible hybrid working model in place which depends on the need for office cover and the needs of the service overall.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £38,058.00 per annum.
