As part of the drive to meet the infrastructure needs of communities in Scotland’s fastest growing local authority, Midlothian Council is seeking to recruit a dynamic, effective and client focused project manager to lead on major projects , with a focus on our rapidly expanding learning estate.

You will be joining our in-house multi-disciplinary Development Team – which oversees the delivery of the Council’s ambitious capital programme, providing project management for complex multi-million pound projects. You will be responsible for the delivery of capital projects and the management of external consultancy teams, to ensure projects are delivered on programme, within budget, in accordance with governance arrangements and reporting controls and to specified quality standards with best value delivery that meets the needs of our communities now and in the future.

Significant projects in our learning estate programme include: the replacement of Beeslack Community High School with a new high school within Easter Bush campus; the refurbishment and retrofit of Penicuik High School and the development of an all through campus in the new town of Shawfair. In addition, Midlothian continues to expand its estate to accommodate primary school and children with Additional Support Needs in accordance with our refreshed Learning Estate Strategy. KNOWLEDGE

It is essential that the jobholder has substantial project management experience in projects with similar dimensions to that of the project.  It is also essential that the jobholder has some knowledge with regards to the planning process and conservation requirements that will enable the implementation of sustainable schemes.  In addition, the jobholder must have well developed communication skills, for example good interaction and the ability to deliver interesting presentations.

It is desirable that the jobholder has some experience of planning, organising and delivering learning initiatives as well as holding a degree qualification in Planning, Surveying; or Architecture. Alternatively the jobholder may have developed equivalent skills, for example report writing, achievement of deadlines, the ability to think conceptually, and communicate advice and guidance articulately.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £42,322.15 per annum.
