We seek a highly motivated and innovative leader to develop and deliver quality service across Children’s Services in Midlothian. You will be responsible for cultivating and growing a skilled and committed workforce using a best practice approach to inspire and lead others. Alongside performance management and having good financial acumen you will develop and implement service strategies to meet need and address any gaps or areas for improvement. Your portfolio will include being responsible for a variety of individual managers and teams as well as driving forward change and ensuring continuous improvement.
You will have a key role in working with stakeholders and participants across Midlothian to deliver a seamless, transformational disability service alongside service provisions at a strategic, operational, and individual level. This will include having a lead role in the development and remodelling of sustainable services to meet current and projected need for children and families impacted by neurodiversity, learning disabilities, complex behaviours, physical disabilities, and communication difficulties.

KNOWLEDGE:
Essential:
- Educated to degree level
- A professional qualification in Social Work
- Post Graduate Certificate in Child Welfare and Protection
- A post graduate qualification (or working towards) in Leadership and Management
- An in-depth working knowledge of children’s service and familiarity with a range of children’s services across the public and voluntary sector
- Significant knowledge, skills and experience of work in services for children, young people and their families,
- Demonstrate significant knowledge, skills and understanding of relevant legislation, policy and procedures including a well-developed understanding of the GIRFEC principles
- Significant experience of multi-agency working at operational management level, demonstrating initiative and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of partners and stakeholders
- Experience of service planning, delivery and approaches to measuring service impact
- Excellent knowledge of management processes associated with leading teams preferably a multi-disciplinary team with a range of professional groups
- Technology-literate in managing information and data
- Demonstrate commitment to continuing personal and professional development.
- An understanding of budget management.
Desirable:
- A current driver’s licence and own transport would help you to undertake this role, but it is not essential.
