Join our communications team and contribute to our aim of delivering high-quality digital content and services. As a Web Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our website's content is accurate, accessible, and engaging for our users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Quality:
    • Review and approve submitted content for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and adherence to the style guide.
    • Edit content for digital optimization.
  • Accessibility:
    • Perform accessibility checks on PDF and other files.
    • Advise on improvements and fix issues in Acrobat.
  • Technical Support:
    • Raise support tickets with Jadu for website or CMS technical issues.
  • Content Management:
    • Convert new content into HTML pages.
    • Optimize text for web readability.
    • Advise on digitizing processes, such as converting paper forms to web forms.
  • Web Forms:
    • Build web forms with optimized business logic.
    • Collaborate with the Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance with data collection standards.
  • Training and Support:
    • Set up profiles and authenticator apps for devolved publishers.
    • Train and educate publishers on CMS usage, style guide adherence, and writing for digital.
  • Multimedia:
    • Edit videos as needed.
    • Create and manage friendly URLs.
  • Feedback and Housekeeping:
    • Respond to website feedback and forward it to relevant services.
    • Conduct weekly reviews of Siteimprove QA reports to fix broken links and spelling issues.
    • Periodically review Siteimprove accessibility and SEO reports to address issues.
  • Content Maintenance:
    • Take down time-sensitive news items.
    • Ensure Jadu Events expire automatically and manually take them offline if necessary.
  • Periodic Updates:
    • Annually replace bin collection calendars and school lunch menus.
    • Manage seasonal updates, such as snowsports dates and pupil registration forms.
    • Update forms for the annual Midlothian Young People’s Awards and other periodic surveys.
  • Data Management:
    • Export and save data from various forms to designated locations.

Knowledge and qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in HTML and experience with content management systems.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Experience with video editing and multimedia content creation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data protection and privacy regulations.

A qualification to indicate a degree standard of education ideally in a relevant discipline such as IT or communications demonstrating technical ability and a high level of literacy is required. Previous experience of content management systems is essential, as is knowledge of preparing images for web use, using Photoshop or other picture editors. Jobholders must also have knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, html coding and css.

Please note that it is Midlothian Council’s policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on working 15 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum full-time actual salary for this position is £13,180.67 per annum.

Requirements

Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee for this PSN Disclosure check will be met by you.
