We are currently recruiting three Children & Family Support Workers for our Corporate Parenting team in the Children’s Carers Centre, Airdrie. Two will join our Kinship Care team and one will join our Supported Care team. The Kinship Care team provides direct support to approved formal and informal kinship carers and the Supported Care team provides guidance to carers focusing on independent living skills for the young person to assist them to transition to independent living.

The kinship role will involve undertaking kinship assessments of prospective kinship carers within specific timescales as outlined in North Lanarkshire’s procedures. The supported care role will assist in initial enquiries if required and contribute to the recruiting of new supported carers. Both posts require working in partnership across statutory, community and voluntary sector to identify, assess and manage risk.

The posts aim to strengthen our support to kinship carers/supported carers to improve outcomes for children/young people who are living in a kinship/supported care environment, in line with North Lanarkshire’s Children’s Services Plan and The Promise. You will also assist in developing and implementing a training programme for kinship carers/supported carers to meet their identified needs and to facilitate regular kinship/supported care support groups and information evenings as required.

You will develop a positive professional relationship with kinship/supported carers and wider family members, with a strong focus on effective engagement and communication methods. Engaging positively with carers is critical to these posts. We are looking for people who are self-motivated, enthusiastic and solution focussed and can remain calm and work under pressure. If you are compassionate and can demonstrate a commitment to working with and developing carers, then this job is ideal for you.

You will join our enthusiastic and innovative teams who are passionate about working with kinship/supported carers and working in ways that build on their strengths and assets. You will have skills and experience in engaging with carers to support them overcome trauma and adversities to promote their wellbeing and fulfil their potential.

An SVQ Level 3 or HNC in Social Care or equivalent is essential with a requirement to work towards either an SVQ Level 3 in Social Care or HNC in Social Care, if you do not already possess both, within a defined timeframe as stipulated by the service. Experience of working with vulnerable young people and their families/carers is essential. Experience of individual/family or group work and knowledge of the social work role and function would be desirable.

You are required to become a full Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) member prior to starting within these posts.

Temporary posts up to 23 months subject to review.
