North Lanarkshire Council's Early Learning & Childcare (ELC) service is dedicated to ensuring the care, wellbeing, and positive development of young children.

We are currently recruiting for Temporary ELC Key Worker positions, working full and part-time and both term-time and 52 weeks across various locations within North Lanarkshire and, ELC Key Workers who will work on a Casual basis*.

You will be a proactive and valued member of the ELC team, supporting and nurturing children through the creation of engaging and stimulating learning experiences. You will contribute to delivering a high-quality, child-centred service that meets the individual needs of young children and their families.

The role involves actively participating in the planning, development, and co-ordination of learning programmes within the ELC setting, ensuring positive outcomes for all children.

You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to build effective relationships and communicate confidently with children, parents, carers, colleagues and partner professionals.

Applicants should have experience working within an ELC environment and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning and development.

The successful candidates must hold one of the following qualifications (or equivalent qualification):

  • SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7
  • HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7

Successful candidates will be required to register and comply with the registration requirements for Practitioner Level with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is required. Applicants who are not currently members must be willing to join the scheme and obtain a satisfactory scheme record or scheme record update.

Please note that applicants will be considered for available posts and this will be discussed during the interview process.

* If successful to work on a casual basis, you would be held on the Council’s Casual list and hours would be offered on an as and when required basis, across a range of establishments, depending on service requirements.

Information session and interviews for this post will be carried out on the evening of Wednesday, 7 October 2026 at St Andrew's High School, Coatbridge.

*For all casual/sessional roles, you will receive 12.1% of your hourly rate for every hour worked in total recompense for annual leave, including public holidays. These rates will be indicated separately on your payslip. You will only be paid for the hours that you work.
