North Lanarkshire Council are seeking to appoint a self motivated and enthusiastic individual to support the delivery of biodiversity and conservation projects across our greenspaces and countryside sites.
Reporting to the Biodiversity & Conservation Manager, you will be responsible for the effective implementation of the Council’s Biodiversity Action Plan through the development and delivery of practical projects. You will also undertake an advisory role in providing greenspace planning responses. You will ensure high quality service delivery, maximising available resources and contributing to positive environmental outcomes for communities across North Lanarkshire.
Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Ecology, Conservation or Geography, you will have experience of working within a countryside, ecological or environmental setting. You should be able to demonstrate experience of delivering biodiversity projects and possess sound practical field ecology skills.
An effective communicator, you will be capable of producing clear reports and developing positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including Council services, external contractors, community groups and partner organisations. You will also have a strong understanding of biodiversity processes, law and agencies within Scotland and be confident in applying ecological knowledge to project delivery.
You will have experience of supervising site-based works and ensuring compliance with environmental law, health and safety requirements, alongside an ability to manage your workload, work independently and contribute to wider service objectives. Knowledge of areas such as environmental impact assessment, habitat survey, or project management would be advantageous.
The role will involve contributing to the development of Local Nature Reserves, supporting ecological assessments, liaising with stakeholders, and promoting access to greenspace through events, activities and community engagement initiatives.
Naturally, you will possess strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills, along with a commitment to high standards of service delivery.
Some working outside normal working hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required from time to time.
A current driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the North Lanarkshire area are essential for this post.
