We are seeking an organised, proactive, and highly responsible Museum Assistant Manager to support the effective running of our Museums and Collections service. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong operational experience, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality visitor experiences within a museum environment.

Your base will be Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life, Coatbridge but you will also be responsible for North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre, Motherwell. This post requires flexibility to travel and also work evenings and weekends in line with service needs.

As part of the Museums & Collections team, you will play a key role in overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of our sites, leading and supporting staff and volunteers, and ensuring our buildings, collections, and public spaces are maintained to the highest standards.

Your key responsibilities will include operational management of the only historic tramway in Scotland alongside delivering public programmes and events whilst maximising income opportunities.

We’re looking for a confident, dependable individual with strong organisational skills and a commitment to excellence in public service. You will come with an excellent track record and a commitment to health and safety, safeguarding, and inclusive practice.

There is also the opportunity to undertake a Modern Apprenticeship in Management as part of this role, supported by Museums Galleries Scotland.

You will require to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member through Disclosure Scotland and obtain a satisfactory membership check prior to commencing in this role.

A full clean UK driving licence is essential for this post.

Interviews are likely to take place at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life on three weeks after the closing date.

Work Pattern: Friday to Tuesday, 8:45am 4:15pm (30min unpaid break)

*For all casual/sessional roles, you will receive 12.1% of your hourly rate for every hour worked in total recompense for annual leave, including public holidays. These rates will be indicated separately on your payslip. You will only be paid for the hours that you work.
