As Planning Manager (Development Management), you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of North Lanarkshire. Your responsibilities will include:
- leading a team of planners, ensuring we meet our statutory targets in determining Householder and Local developments to facilitate increased
- investment and deliver positive outcomes.
- delivering an effective Planning Enforcement Service, including working in close collaboration with other council services and external agencies where required.
- supporting the Planning and Place Manager in reviewing and further developing the end-to-end process for statutory consents to improve the efficiency of the statutory consent process in North Lanarkshire.
- working closely with key project partners to contribute planning advice, supporting the development and delivery of programmes of work in line with The Plan for North Lanarkshire.
Qualifications and Experience:
- You should have a Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline.
- Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or equivalent professional body is essential.
- Substantial knowledge and experience in Planning are required.
- Familiarity with forthcoming planning developments/initiatives is a plus.
- Collaborative partnership experience is desirable.
Skills and Attributes:
- You’ll need to be business and customer-focused, with a track record of identifying opportunities and achieving outcomes.
- Strong leadership skills and adaptability are essential.
- A sound understanding of Planning policy, legislation, and initiatives at various levels is crucial.
- Excellent organisational and IT skills are expected.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to analyse information, produce reports and present information to a range of audiences are essential.
Work Environment:
- You’ll join a dynamic and flexible team within the Place service.
- The team currently operates a hybrid model of home-working and office-based work at the Civic Centre complex in Motherwell.
- Travel throughout North Lanarkshire and occasional travel within the Glasgow City Region will be part of your duties.

Work pattern:
35 hours per week - Monday - Thursday: 8:45am - 4:45pm (including a 55 minute unpaid break)
Friday: 8:45am - 4:15pm (including a 50 minute unpaid break)
