Based within one of our five Children’s Houses across North Lanarkshire, you will lead and be part of the team responsible for parenting and caring for children and young people in looked after and accommodated care, consistent with National Standards, Council and Service policies. You will contribute to the normal development of young people through the provision of a healthy lifestyle, a variety of appropriate stimulating activities and a consistent caring adult role model implementing practices and activities which meet their assessed needs, encouraging them to develop to their full potential.

We are looking for someone who is committed to involving children, young people and developing services and approaches around the needs of children and their families. You will lead on practice to deliver improved outcomes for children and young people, and support North Lanarkshire fulfil its commitment to keep The Promise.

In partnership with key colleagues/partners you will also contribute to assessment and care planning, participating in reviews and other meetings as required, you will prepare written reports and care plans and contribute to the implementation of care plans.

An SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent, together with extended experience within a relevant child care or residential setting is essential and you will be required to work towards SVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care, within timescales set by SSSC, should you not already have this qualification. You will be flexible, self motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to work to tight deadlines and a commitment to inspire children and young people to achieve their potential. You should be able to deal with difficult situations and demonstrate coping strategies. You will also have a developed understanding of resource management, including financial control, and staff management as well as ensuring health and safety responsibilities are met. You should also have the ability to undertake a Physical Capacity test in line with Promoting Positive Behaviour Guidance

You will require to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member prior to commencing in this role and you will also be registered or eligible for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
