The Strategy, Improvement and Governance Manager plays a critical role in developing the strategies, policies and governance arrangements that ensure service planning and delivery is aligned with this vision. The role strengthens the council’s ability to provide effective oversight, accountability and continuous improvement across its strategic priorities.

Reporting to the Chief Officer (Legal, Democratic and Strategy), this senior leadership role is responsible for managing the development of the council’s strategic direction and leading its implementation. This encompasses strategic planning, project management, governance, performance management, evidence‑based planning and decision‑making, and continuous improvement. The post‑holder will foster a culture of collaboration and solution‑focused working across the organisation and with wider public‑sector bodies to support the successful delivery of the council’s ambitions.

Educated to SVQ5/Postgraduate /Hons degree standard or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you should have a leadership and/or Management qualification and evidence of CPD. You should bring substantial experience in the development and implementation of corporate strategies, policies, plans, and frameworks with a strong track record of improving performance and using innovation to improve service delivery.

Please note, as part of your duties and responsibilities, you will be required to participate in the Council Incident Officer standby rota, which will require you to be on standby out of office hours, for a period of one week, approximately four times a year. For this, you will receive payment in line with the Council’s Conditions of Service and full training will be provided. This will be discussed further at interview.

Work pattern:

35 hours per week - Monday - Thursday: 08:45 - 16:45 (including a 55 minute unpaid break)

Friday: 08:45 - 16:15 (including a 50 minute unpaid break)
