With a new five-year Programme of Work to 2028 in place, we have created a new post of Trainee Planning Assistant/Officer to deliver on our ambition.
If you are interested in following a career pathway to become a qualified Planning Officer, you will have the opportunity to study for a planning qualification on a part-time basis and gain hands on experience working in a vibrant planning team. You will start with us as a Trainee Planning Assistant on our NLC6 grade but will be able to progress to a Planning Assistant grade NLC9 (£33,558 - £38,811) and Planning Officer grade NLC10 (£39,829 - £45,696) as you develop your skills and experience.
You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our public and private sector partners to facilitate the sustainable development of the North Lanarkshire, working to achieve high quality design and placemaking and securing inward investment. You will be responsible for a range of planning activities including handling of applications, the preparation of the Local Development Plan, Planning Enforcement and associated duties.
You should be educated to HNC/SVQ3/apprenticeship or equivalent SCQF level 6/7 qualification with some work experience preferably within a planning environment or working with the general public. An understanding and knowledge of planning policy, legislation and initiatives at local, regional and national levels is desirable.
You will be joining a dynamic and flexible team within Planning and Place, who currently operate a hybrid model of home-working and office-based work at the Civic Centre in Motherwell. You will be required to travel throughout North Lanarkshire with occasional travel throughout the Glasgow City Region to undertake the duties of this post.

Working Pattern
Monday - Thursday: 8:45am - 4:45pm (including a 55-minute unpaid break)
Friday: 8:45am - 4:15pm (including a 50-minute unpaid break)
