Based within the Tackling Poverty Team, you will promote the increased take-up of welfare and other benefits by providing information to Council staff and Service Users. The work of the Tackling Poverty Team forms part of North Lanarkshire Council’s Wider Tackling Poverty Strategy and Action Plan.

You will provide assistance, updates and training on Welfare Rights and Tackling Poverty to a wide range of Council Staff including those from Health and Social Work Services, Housing Services and Education and Families.

You will provide the residents of North Lanarkshire with Welfare Rights advice and assistance to Type III in the Scottish National Standards in Advice and Representation. This will also involve mediation and negotiation on behalf of service users with appropriate agencies in the preparation and presentation of Welfare Benefit appeals.

You will develop and deliver training programmes on Welfare Rights and Tackling Poverty.

An HNC/SVQ Level 3, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline, combined with extended relevant work experience is essential. You must also have experience of the benefits system and previous advocacy/representation experience with the ability to assimilate and interpret complex information. A good knowledge of Social Security issues and legislation is also an essential requirement.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme checks will be carried out prior to commencing in this role.

Work Pattern-

17.5 hours per week.

Week 1: Thursday and Friday

Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

*For all casual/sessional roles, you will receive 12.1% of your hourly rate for every hour worked in total recompense for annual leave, including public holidays. These rates will be indicated separately on your payslip. You will only be paid for the hours that you work.
