Renfrewshire Council are looking to recruit a motivated and experienced Bridges and Structures Manager to oversee the team responsible for the 24-hour, 365 day a year operation of the Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside (CWRR) Clyde Crossing bridge. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the delivery of the Council’s responsibilities in relation to roads related structures across Renfrewshire.

 

The role will be responsible for the operation of this new £100million Council asset, which will be the first of its kind on the Clyde. The opening and closing of the bridge is controlled remotely from the Control Room building, situated next to the structure (on the southern side in Renfrew) and is required to open on demand to allow the passage of River Vessels.

 

The CWRR Clyde Crossing operations team are an important part of the Climate, Public Protection & Roads service in Environment, Housing and Infrastructure and, in the role of Bridges and Structures Manager, you will report to the Infrastructure & Transportation Manager.

 

The operations team are responsible for ensuring that the bridge is open or closed as required, in accordance with specific operational protocols and key bridge performance metrics. As the Bridges and Structures Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of operation and control of the bridge, as well as the general day-to-day management and resource organisation of a small team of operators.

 

The main duties of the post are included in more detail within the job outline. The operation of the bridge extends beyond just the opening and closing of the bridge and also includes the delivery of the Council’s Capital Investment Programme for bridges and structures across the Council portfolio.

As a key part of the team, you will provide an energetic and effective contribution to the team with a passion for providing high quality services to the public and driving service improvements and organisational change.

 

Based at Renfrewshire House, Cotton Street, Paisley, you will lead a number of challenging work areas and make improvements to Renfrewshire’s Road network and associated infrastructure therefore you should have experience of managing, developing and reporting on complex projects within a public sector environment, experience of working with senior officers to develop and implement high level strategies and plans.

 

You must have Degree in Engineering, Chartered Membership / or working towards Chartered Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers and post qualification experience within a roads service. You also require working experience of NEC contract types and experience of using/ implementation of design software and substantial experience in multi-disciplinary project work.

 

It is essential that you have an awareness of current Health & Safety legislation and a proven track record of organising and managing team members and providing cover for senior managers.
