Based at Renfrewshire House, Paisley. You will ensure the effective operation of the Sundry Income/Council Tax/NDR and Housing Benefit Overpayment recovery process. You will maximise revenue for the Council by ensuring council debts are recovered using the speediest, most cost effective and efficient methods available in line with legislation and council policy and procedures.
You will be required to effectively administer the debtor recovery systems that control the recovery of multiple debt streams comprised of Sundry Debt, Council Tax, Non Domestic Rates and Housing Benefit Overpayment debt so that the Council makes use of all recovery methods available; agree repayment arrangements with customers in accordance with procedures ensuring appropriate recovery methods and levels are agreed, maintained, reviewed and escalated; progress recovery of debt with the council’s legal services provider to ensure effective recovery of debt; respond positively and effectively to customer enquiries in relation to debt and signpost customers to relevant debt advice agencies and other appropriate services and interrogate and record effective information on the appropriate IT systems in relation to the action taken on individual accounts or in relation to debt recovery strategies as directed by line manager
It is essential that you have experience of: working in an office based environment; working with a wide range of computer packages and working within a debt collection environment. It is also essential that you have the ability to; work with numerical data; work with written correspondence and information; work as part of a team and have effective organisational skills.
It is desirable that you have experience of working within a Local Authority Debt Collection environment; knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other relevant IT packages and the ability to negotiate and deal with difficult customers.
