Justice Officer - Caledonian System Men’s Programme
Following new funding allocation we are implementing the Caledonian System in Renfrewshire. The Caledonian System is an integrated approach to address men’s domestic abuse and to improve the lives of women, children and men. The primary aim of the Caledonian System is to reduce the re-offending of men convicted of domestic abuse related offences, thereby increasing women’s and children’s safety.
The Caledonian System works with:
- Men who are convicted of domestic abuse related offences
- Their female partners or ex-partners
- Children
We are currently recruiting for roles within the Men’s Programme of the Caledonian System. The Men’s Programme consists of individual sessions, followed by the group work element and completed with a series of maintenance sessions.
You will work with people within the criminal justice system involved in domestic abuse offending and in particular assess for suitability for the Caledonian System men’s programme and provide the intervention component of the programme. You will also undertake a range of assessments and interventions with justice service users as an alternative to remand, diversion from prosecution, subject to community interventions, or on release from short sentences.
You will case manage people subject to Structured Deferred Sentences and Diversion, supervise bail conditions, encourage voluntary involvement with those released from short sentences, and support social workers in their work with statutory service users. This will include all offence types i.e. including sexual and violent offences.
It is essential that you have a commitment to social work values and an HNC or SVQ in a relevant practice area. Knowledge and experience of working with people in a social work setting, co-working and multi-agency working are required, and effective assessment, communication, report writing, and IT skills are also essential.
Although based in Paisley, the ability to travel throughout Renfrewshire is also essential, with a driving license desirable.
It is desirable that you have a flexible approach to working evenings. Experience of, and a good understanding of domestic abuse offending is desirable, as is experience of supporting people with a range of needs including addiction, housing, mental health and employability. Experience of writing reports for court would also be helpful.
