Lead Fleet Engineer You will be a time‑served Technician, recognised by an appropriate Industry Board, and will hold a City & Guilds Certificate and an LGV licence. You will be based at Underwood Road Depot and will support the delivery of safe, compliant and effective maintenance services across Renfrewshire Council’s fleet. The role involves coordinating and undertaking a wide range of activities including servicing, testing, overhauls, repairs, planned maintenance and enhancements to vehicles, plant and equipment used by Fleet Operations / Community Services, other Council services and external clients. You will contribute to ensuring the service is responsive, efficient, and meets operational and regulatory requirements. You must have experience of scheduling and directing workload to colleagues, including providing support and guidance during maintenance and repair work. You will have experience working on various vehicle types, including commercial vehicles, and carrying out associated repairs. Experience completing job cards, VI sheets and other associated paperwork, and the ability to undertake audit checks of colleagues’ workload and documentation, is essential. You must also have knowledge of operating diagnostic tools. You will have the required knowledge of DVSA’s Guide to Roadworthiness and the specification of defects for maintenance and MOT preparation, as well as knowledge of Transport and DVSA/DVLA procedures and standards. The role requires Health and Safety awareness and understanding relevant to vehicle maintenance tasks, as well as the ability to maintain a rational and methodical approach to problem solving when issues arise. You must have effective communication skills, including working with employees and external stakeholders, along with time‑management skills and proficiency in Microsoft packages, including Excel, Word and Teams. You must be able to work under pressure while maintaining a professional attitude, work with minimum supervision, and demonstrate workload awareness. A flexible approach to sharing duties and working arrangements is essential, as is the ability to work effectively as part of a team. This role requires you to be part of a standby rota, and you may be required to work outside normal hours, sometimes at short notice. A driving licence is essential. Desirable qualifications and experience include: • Category C+E licence • Previous supervisory experience • Previous experience working with hydraulics • Extensive experience maintaining local authority equipment • DVSA MOT tester qualification for light vehicles If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check.
