Maintenance Support Worker
Renfrewshire Council is seeking a reliable and practical Maintenance Support Worker to join our Children’s Services team, supporting the upkeep of our residential houses and supported living services across the authority.
You will be responsible for delivering a range of day-to-day maintenance and repair tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, decorating, cleaning and gardening. You will carry out regular safety checks and building inspections, reporting any issues and ensuring compliance with Renfrewshire Council’s health and safety procedures. You will also support stock control, deliveries and the ordering of supplies in line with Council financial processes.
A key aspect of the role is working alongside care experienced young people, supporting them to develop practical household and maintenance skills to promote independence and positive outcomes. You will work as part of a wider Children’s Services team to provide a safe, supportive and well-maintained environment.
You will have varied experience and skills in general repairs and maintenance work and experience of using hand and power tools and the ability to follow technical diagrams/instructions.
You must have literacy, organisational, time management and record keeping skills, and an awareness of general Health and Safety procedures.
It is essential that you have the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of service users and colleagues and the ability to work as part of an effective team, as well as willingness to work with and support young people to build knowledge and skills around maintenance and decoration.
A full current driving license is essential.
You will be required to work in line with Renfrewshire Council policies and procedures, including health and safety and equal opportunities Relevant training will be provided.
