An exciting opportunity has arisen for up to three enthusiastic people to join our Empty Homes Team in the role of Repairs and Maintenance Officer.
Supporting our Empty Homes Team Leader, the Repairs and Maintenance Officers will deliver void repairs. This includes diagnosis of maintenance issues and instruction of repairs, liaising with internal colleagues and external contractors and carrying out post inspections of repairs to monitor quality. The job holder will be responsible for processing purchase orders and authorising payments for completed work, ensuring that all works undertaken meet statutory, regulatory, policy and best practice requirements. The role includes supporting performance monitoring and contributing to service development to ensure the delivery of a high quality, customer focused repair and maintenance service.
It is essential you have experience of working within a housing repairs and maintenance environment. You must understand landlord repair and maintenance responsibilities and a knowledge of standards of workmanship for all trades involved in the repairs process including various Health & Safety regulations that relate to the construction industry. You must have effective IT skills, written and oral communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative as part of a busy team, to demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm, to organise your own workload and to work under pressure to ensure tight deadlines are met. You must also be able to attend meetings outwith normal office hours when required.
It is essential you are a City and Guilds time served tradesperson, have an HNC/HND in a relevant building or construction discipline or have a relevant SVQ Level 3.
A full driving licence is also essential.
Knowledge of local authority working conditions/practices and experience of working in a social housing environment is desirable.
The Council promotes flexible and mobile working practices. A degree of flexibility of work location is required to ensure service provisions are met and this may include working from home on occasion.
