The Port Health and Safety Officer reports to the Deputy Harbour Master and is responsible for day to day health and safety issues of Ports and Harbours ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, policy and best practice as well as statutory and regulatory obligations under the Port Marine Safety Code, ISM Code and other relevant frameworks. A key duty of this post is to act as Deputy Port Facility Security Officer in line with the International Ship and Port Security Code.
The main duties of the Port Health and Safety Officer are:-
- To be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, risk assessment and upkeep of the documentation pertaining to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), risk assessments and other basic health and safety records for Ports and Harbours;
- To provide professional health and safety consultancy support and advice to Ports and Harbours to improve the service’s health and safety performance;
- To ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented, ensuring statutory reporting requirements are met;
- To monitor and evaluate the implementation and management of occupational health and safety within Ports and Harbours;
