Stirling Council seeks to appoint a highly motivated and talented professional to lead Strathyre Primary School.

Strathyre Primary is a small, rural school situated at the foot of Ben Sheann providing an interesting and stimulating environment where children can learn and play. The current school, built to a modern design on two levels, was built in 1960 replacing the original school and was refurbished in 2018. The school serves the villages of Strathyre, Balquhidder and Lochearnhead. The school currently has a roll of 33 pupils across 2 classes. Learning experiences are motivating and engaging, and outdoor learning is embraced. The primary school is associated with McLaren High School and is part of the McLaren Learning Community.

This is an exciting opportunity requiring strong leadership, excellent communication skills and a thorough knowledge of current educational developments. The applicant will be committed to delivering excellence and equity by sustaining school improvement, promoting high quality learning and teaching, supporting health and wellbeing and raising achievement and attainment for all learners. Stirling’s culture of self-evaluation in schools and nurseries means that the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with innovative, reflective and skilled professionals.

Applicants must have achieved the Standard for Headship or equivalent, awarded by the General Teaching Council for Scotland or have held a permanent appointment as a headteacher of a public school, a grant-aided school or an independent school on or before 1 August 2020 in order to be appointed permanently to this post. Applicants who can demonstrate commitment to and likelihood of achieving this standard within 30 months may be considered for a temporary appointment (of no more than 30 months) while working toward the standard. https://www.gtcs.org.uk/professional-standards/the-standards/headship.aspx

The successful candidate will be required to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) for Children. If your application is progressed after the interview, you will be asked to complete the form and have your details verified.

If you’ve got the right skills for the job we want to hear from you. We encourage applications from the right candidates regardless of age (restrictions apply to Modern Apprenticeships), disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief or race.
