Job Description

Stirling Council's Justice Social Work Service is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Social Worker to join the Prison Based Social Work Team in the new purpose built facility for women, HMP & YOI Stirling. HMP & YOI Stirling is a new facility which opened to women in June 2023. We are seeking a dynamic person who is committed to work with women in custody, using a gender specific and trauma informed approach which recognises the complexity of women's needs, to support women in their journey through custody to better prepare them for resettlement in their communities. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work within a small, motivated team to provide a proactive and quality social work service to women. We work in partnership with the Scottish Prison Service and community based social work teams to manage and support all women subject to supervision on release. We also have a number of local priorities which include working with pregnant women and new mothers, programme delivery and supporting young women. We are seeking social workers from a variety of backgrounds who are skilled and passionate about working with women involved in the Justice system. A good understanding of risk management and the legislative framework underpinning Justice Social work is beneficial however, full training and support will be given to ensure that you are able to maintain the department’s commitment to continuous improvement. This is a permanent position working 28 hours a week and prison based. Working pattern can be negotiated. All applicants must be registered, or in the process of registering with Scottish Social Services Council and hold a degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification. We would welcome applications from registered Social Workers and from Final Year Degree in Social Work Students looking to start their career as a Social Worker in Justice Services. Final year students must be qualified within 2 months of submitting their application.
