Stirling Council is an ambitious Council seeking to take advantage of its unrivalled location and rapid growth to provide opportunities and services for all its citizens and to encourage sustainable business and community development.

Stirling Council as a whole, and the Governance Service in particular, have embarked on an exciting transformation programme to best place the Council to meet the needs of its citizens. We are looking for a solicitor to join our Legal Team to support the Chief Officer – Governance and the Legal Manager. This is an opportunity for an ambitious solicitor to make their mark and progress their career in local government.

You will report directly to the Legal Team Leader – Commercial, Property & Transformation and provide commercial support and advice across the breadth of the Council’s functions. The caseload will include HR and employment related matters, both a mixture of policy, advisory and occasional tribunal work, FOI, commercial contracts and procurement. Analytical and communications skills and political awareness are essential, together with a commitment to customer-focused public services.

This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor seeking their first in house role working in local government, or for a trainee solicitor approaching qualification looking to qualify into local government. This opportunity will be of particular interest for those who have experience, or wish to gain experience in employment law matters. Full support and training will be provided to the right candidate. The Council is also committed to the professional development of its staff with opportunities available for the successful candidate.

If you would like to have an informal discussion please contact Mark Easton, Legal Team Leader – Commercial, Property & Transformation at eastonm@stirling.go.uk.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake Level 1 Disclosure check. If your application is progressed after the interview, you will be asked to complete the form and have your details verified.

If you’ve got the right skills for the job we want to hear from you. We encourage applications from the right candidates regardless of age (restrictions apply to Modern Apprenticeships), disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief or race.
