Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Corporate Finance team for an enthusiastic Qualified or Part-qualified Accountant to join our team and take a key role in supporting departmental financial performance and decision-making.

To be part of a team within Finance that will provide a comprehensive integrated financial management service to other services of the Council and to Elected Members.

As Accountant, you will provide support in the delivery of key corporate finance functions including financial planning, budgeting, statutory reporting, treasury management, governance and corporate accounting.

You will possess strong technical accounting skills and be required to work closely with Service managers and budget holders to provide expert financial advice, statutory and management accounting services, and supporting the delivery of efficient value for money services.

Key responsibilities:
• Support the development and delivery of financial plans.
• Oversee and monitor Capital and Revenue budgets as assigned and contribute to budget development.
• Support the preparation of Annual Accounts and statutory returns and liaise with External Audit.
• Complete all grant claims, statutory and other returns within the allocated timescales.
• Provide financial advice to senior officers and stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in financial systems and practices.
• Deliver training in financial procedures and systems as required by services.
• Produce a budget and monitoring reports in consultation with service budget holders, within an agreed timescale.

We need a qualified/part-qualified CCAB/CMIS accountant who has:
• Experience in local authority/public sector finance or experience working within a complex organisation.
• Knowledge of statutory accounting regulations.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Knowledge of financial systems and reporting.

Requirements

The preferred candidate will be required to complete a Level 1 Disclosure check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities
