Roles within the College are subject to the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme and as such the successful candidate(s) will be required to make an application for membership under the Scheme.

Primarily this is a manual handling role which supports teaching activity through the preparation for practical classwork, mainly within the brick workshop. You will assist in the brick workshop by supplying, stacking and dismantling brickwork; mixing mortar and plaster and supplying this as necessary; using equipment as required; moving supply and stacking roofing/building products. Other duties will involve:

  • Moving paint and other materials, using a wheelbarrow, moving supply and stacking timber products;
  • Undertake general maintenance and cleaning of workshops, associated tools and equipment;
  • Keeping all workshops and other associated areas free of waste and rubbish;
  • Storing, distributing and collecting equipment and tools from students on a daily basis across all Faculties;
  • Assisting in the completion of annual and periodic inventory checks;
  • Maintaining accurate records in respect of Health & Safety, such as material delivery, tool issue and other essential College documentation;
  • Making daily, weekly and monthly Health & Safety checks and advise Estates Seniors of any concerns;
  • Opening classrooms, stores and other areas as required to ensure readiness for students and staff and secure same at close of business;
  • Assisting with internal/external events/moves as required including carrying out relocation of furniture, materials and equipment and setting up and dismantling of furniture/displays;
  • Delivering computers and other equipment to outreach centres and assisting with the set up process where necessary;
  • Carrying out driving duties, deliver mail, materials and transport staff and students as required;
  • Assisting in general maintenance, repair and reporting of faults as required;
  • Assisting in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff and visitors;
  • Liaising with internal staff, contractors and external visitors as required;
  • Performing basic checks, maintenance and cleaning of the College vehicle fleet;
  • Co-operating in the review of methods and the introduction of new equipment, procedures and technology;
  • Deputising for Senior Facilities Officer, with the appropriate training, as and when required;
  • Undertaking the duties of a First Aider and participate in the College First Aid Rota; and
  • Undertaking the duties of a Fire Evacuation Officer or Fire Warden.

You will have previous experience ofsecurity, janitorial, cleaning duties and carrying out minor repairs or have similar relevant experience.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of building and facilities management and have working knowledge of health and safety matters and a good standard of literacy and numeracy. You will possess a current driving licence and valid First Aid certificate or be willing to undertake training and successfully complete the course.
