The Head of Department will provide inspiring and collegiate leadership to staff and will deliver clear direction to the future advancement and support of the College’s new Built Environment and Engineering academy. You will be required to provide a clear direction for leading development of net zero and sustainable technologies in teaching, curriculum design and industry partnerships. Working with others, the postholder will maintain overall responsibility for external engagement and experience, ensuring high quality future focussed education to meet employer demand. With a clear commitment to student success, the head will effectively manage the department’s resource allocation to ensure that resources are deployed close to students.
A key part of this role will be the contribution the Head of Department makes to the evolving culture of the college where we value the interconnectedness of staff to promote wellbeing. Having effective communication skills and building interpersonal relationships are essential attributes for success in this post. The Head of Department will have a track record of engaging with professional development and will be committed to doing so on an ongoing basis.
On a practical level, applicants will hold a SCQF Level 9 or equivalent qualification and be willing to register with GTCS in relation to the timelines contained within (NJNC) Circular STL 02/24. Applicants will also be experienced education professionals with the skills to lead and develop a team at senior level and to teach within the curricular provision of the Department.
The role will encompass a range of responsibilities within the College and it is expected that the postholder will provide the knowledge and expertise to lead the further development of the curriculum and departmental staff. This will include:
- Strengthening the curriculum by providing strategic leadership for curriculum innovation and departmental ethos;
- Leading and reviewing resource allocations to enhance the departmental activity and impact positively on the student experience;
- Serving as a highly effective ambassador for the College.
