Lecturer in Chemistry (Ref. L716)

Permanent/Part-Time (17.5 hours)/Aberdeen City Campus

Salary:  £40,170.00 – £48,357.00 pro rata per annum, actual salary £20,085.00 - £24,178.50

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic person with a passion for teaching who is keen to pass on their knowledge to our science students at our Aberdeen City Campus. The curriculum covers National Certificate through to Higher National Diploma levels (SCQF levels 4 to 8) and teaching duties will be across this range.

 

The ideal candidate should be qualified to a minimum of degree or equivalent level in chemistry or a strongly related degree, with a particular emphasis on organic chemistry and analytical instrumentation (spectroscopy and chromatography). being essential.  Extensive experience of advanced laboratory practical skills in chemistry, either in a research or industrial setting or through teaching to HND level is also essential.

 

Excellent communication and social skills are key aspects of the role, along with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with students and colleagues.  Teaching experience is not essential but experience of supervising project work in an educational setting would be advantageous. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to study for a teaching qualification.

  1. Degree or equivalent qualification (SCQF Level 9) in Chemistry or a strongly related discipline.
  2. Qualifications appropriate for teaching and assessing Organic Chemistry and Analytical Instrumentation (spectroscopy and chromatography) to SCQF Level 8.
  3. Extensive experience of laboratory practical skills relating to chemistry and analytical instrumentation
  4. Ability to teach across all sub-disciplines of chemistry to SCQF Level 7
  5. * Teaching or training experience
  6. * Teaching qualification (TQFE or equivalent)
  7. * Assessment experience
  8. * Assessment qualification
  9. * GTC registration
