The primary responsibility is to provide overnight care and support to young people, ensuring their well-being in a safe and nurturing environment by attending to their physical, emotional, and safety needs.
Supporting Young People's Needs
Understand each young person's needs, and provide tailored support and assistance with bedtime routines and night-time needs.
Establish safe and containing relationships with young people which allow them to feel cared for, offering emotional support during the night-time.
Promote sleep hygiene principles and good practice in working with young people’s plans.
Participate in the Team Around the Child (TAtC) approach, and contribute to the assessment of Young People’s risks and needs through care plans.
Maintain a calm, safe, nurturing and stimulating living environment that promotes a positive night-time routine and a good night’s sleep.
Safety and Well-being:
Ensure well-being checks to protect young people are undertaken and recorded within procedure and good practice.
Uphold safety protocols to prevent incidents, accidents and injuries. This includes close observations and supervision of young people, de-escalating conflict and responding to challenging behaviours.
Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment.
Advocacy and Empowerment:
Champion the rights of young people according to relevant legislation and Rossie's policies, respecting their privacy, choices and cultural backgrounds.
Build trusting and supportive relationships with young people whilst acting as a role model.
Supporting Growth and Development:
Contribute to the prevention and management of distressed behaviour in children and young
people
Support the social, emotional and identity development of children and young people
Compliance and Professional Practice:
Ensure all care provided adheres to Rossie's policies, legislation and relevant guidance.
Stay up-to-date on and implement best practices in residential childcare, creating a high-quality care environment through trauma-sensitive and attachment-informed approaches.
Documentation, Collaboration and Communication:
Promote effective communication for and about individuals
Undertake routine administrative tasks and provide written reports of young people's needs,
progress and incidents.
Work effectively as part of a team supervising/monitoring/supporting young people to reach
their full potential
Maintain clear and positive communication with colleagues, families and stakeholders, fostering collaboration for the young people's benefit.
Additional Responsibilities:
Actively participate in supervision, training/online training and other required meetings.
Complete necessary inductions and ongoing training to fulfil job duties and achieve/maintain SSSC registration. Completion of all mandatory training commensurate with the requirements of the role and as directed by Rossie.
Maintain a flexible approach to work schedules as directed by the Night Duty Manager/Care Managers
Undertake any additional duties assigned by the management team that are consistent with the role
Ensure all delegated household/cleaning tasks are completed and recorded within the night objectives.
