Job Description

West Lothian College Board of Governors

Do you have passion, commitment and the drive to help lead a high performing further education college?

Do you want to extend your professional network and enhance your leadership skills?

Do you want to use your skills and experience to help people become the best that they can be?

If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of these questions, then West Lothian College Board of Governors would love to hear from you.

We are currently recruiting for Non-executive Board Members to take up appointment from 1 September 2026.  Our Board includes members with a range of skills and expertise in the public, private and voluntary sectors as well as elected student, staff and trade union representatives. The roles are voluntary and are not remunerated however travel expenses will be reimbursed.

As a Board member you will be expected, as a minimum, to attend 4 Committee meetings, 4 Board meetings and 2 Board Strategy events during the year. Our Board members are also encouraged to participate in a number of wider college events such as the annual student Graduation Ceremony.

We are looking to recruit two new members who can complement and extend the skills matrix of the current Board. You will have relevant skills, the ability to understand complex issues and be able to constructively challenge within a Board environment.

The successful candidates will have previous experience at Board level and will also demonstrate sound interpersonal and communication skills. One successful candidate will have specific skills in audit and risk and the other successful candidate will be able to demonstrate general Board experience. Experience of the education sector would be an advantage.

The Board promotes equality and inclusion and actively welcomes applications from candidates from diverse communities.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of twenty members, working together with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure that West Lothian College delivers the best learning experience for the growing number of young people and adult learners in the region.

You may never have considered a board position before, but your experience may be invaluable. Public sector boards are keen to increase the diversity of their non-executive members and this may be a great opportunity for you.

More details on the role are available in the information pack, which you will find in the attachments.

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter to:
