VACANCY Executive Assistant to the Commissioner and Senior Management Team

HOURS OF WORK Around 37 hours per week Monday to Friday

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is currently seeking to recruit an Executive Assistant to join her team who are based in Hamilton. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to work in a fast-paced environment within a growing progressive organisation.

The PIRC was established in 2013 and is responsible for carrying out independent investigations into incidents involving the police and independently review the way the police handle complaints from the public. Our aim is to secure public confidence in policing in Scotland by supporting continuous improvement and promoting positive change.

This role, which reports directly to the Commissioner, provides high quality support to the Commissioner, her Senior Management Team (SMT) and the Audit and Accountability Committee (AAC). It acts as an initial point of contact, gatekeeping and taking decisions, where necessary, on her behalf. An excellent knowledge of the PIRC, stakeholders and associated legislation is required to allow judgment and suggest potential solutions to senior staff. Due to the highly sensitive areas of work and projects undertaken by the post holder and the access to highly sensitive and confidential information, it requires discretion, integrity and diplomacy at all times.

You must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following specific duties:

  • Provide the highest level of professional support to the Commissioner, the SMT and the Audit and Accountability Committee (AAC).
  • Manage the Commissioner’s office and schedule ensuring that there is regular engagement between the Commissioner and key stakeholders.
  • Utilise high levels of professional and personal integrity, honesty and reliability while dealing with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority and sensitive materials

Successful candidates should have a good standard of general education (minimum SCQF level 6) to include qualifications in Maths and English. The candidate should also have significant experience, 1 – 3 years minimum, of working in a similar Executive role.

The successful candidate must undergo Non Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) and Security Clearance (SC) prior to appointment.
