A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within our Strategy and Stakeholder Engagement Directorate for a Service User Rights & Equalities Manager. The role will be based in the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) Headquarters, situated within the Gyle Business Park - Edinburgh, however there may also be the opportunity for home working.

About the Role

As Service User Rights & Equalities Manager you will be responsible for strategy and policy development in relation to Human Rights. You will play a key role in ensuring that the SPS places Human Rights and Equalities at the centre of design, delivery and improvement of prison services throughout Scotland, and will be the main point of contact for prisons in relation to policy advice and direction. The SPS has a responsibility to adhere to Public Sector Equality duties and regulatory requirements, and your role will be to ensure adherence and compliance.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

· Support the Head of Strategy and Improvement to develop and implement the Service user rights and equalities in accordance with the SPS corporate planning

· Supporting the development of arrangements for regular oversight and improvement reporting against service user Human rights and equalities

· Provide guidance, direction and support for prisons to ensure design, delivery and improvement of prison services meets legislative and regulatory requirements

· Contribute to SPS’ diversity, corporate planning and governance arrangements

· Lead on Service User Human Rights and equalities, ensuring that SPS meets the expectations of a well performing public body and those laid out in the Justice Strategy and the SPS Corporate Plan, embedding human rights across all SPS strategy development and policy making

About You

The successful candidate will:

· Be an accomplished manager with experience of building effective teams and of providing guidance and support to a wide variety of stakeholders

· Have a sound understanding of how equalities and human rights are embedded within strategic frameworks across public services

· Be experienced in analysing and interpreting information in order to produce credible and evidence based reports and written communications

· Have excellent communication skills and ability to effectively plan and manage competing priorities
