As the Fleet Engineer you will provide professional engineering support, develop vehicle and fleet efficiencies and compliance initiatives, encouraging good practice with the various fleet users. You will contribute to the Fleet Partnership by leading on producing vehicle, plant and equipment specifications, procurement and disposal arrangements which maximise the benefits to Tayside Contracts and Angus Council, where applicable.

You will oversee the management of the Hire Desk, via the Assistant Fleet Engineer, ensuring best value and compliance.

You will have relevant experience in the management of Fleet Operations and/or Fleet Maintenance activities. You will be a time served motor vehicle mechanic, ideally in an LGV environment and trained in LGV (or PCV) inspection procedures. You will have experience in financial management, including assisting the compilation and monitoring of budgets. You will have an in depth understanding of the legal and Health and Safety requirements of operating and maintaining a large fleet of commercial vehicles and in depth understanding of vehicle and plant specifications.

You will have the ability to plan, organise and monitor work to meet legal requirements and functional objectives, work successfully as part of a team and develop effective working relationships with colleagues and external customers, etc, manage and motivate staff to deliver improved performance and to work under pressure. You will have good verbal and written communication skills and have strong IT skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint and have report writing skills.

You will possess appropriate City & Guilds Certificate or equivalent, a CPC in National Road Transport Operations and a National 5 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

A Category C Driving Licence or equivalent entitlement to drive in Great Britain is essential and a Category C+E Driving Licence or equivalent entitlement to drive in Great Britain would be desirable.Tayside Contracts is the collaborative operating arm of the three Councils in Tayside (our Constituent Councils):
