Locum MERRIT Care Support Worker

Job Description

We are currently recruiting Locum – Care Support Workers (Homecare MERRIT) to provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals in their own homes across Midlothian. If you are passionate about supporting people to live independently and with dignity, we want to hear from you. It is desirable you have experience of care work and preference will be given to candidates possessing an SVQ3 qualification in Social Care, a full clean manual driving license is required as driving an allocated van is within the role.

As a Homecare MERRIT Support Worker, you will visit individuals in their own homes to assist with daily tasks and promote independence. The role is vital in helping individuals maintain their wellbeing, dignity and quality of life within familiar surroundings. The role includes supporting people who are nearing end of life to provide dignified care which lets the person remain at home. The team responds to emergency calls responding to the community alarm scheme. This includes supporting the fallen person up using a range of appropriate equipment. These calls need to be dynamically risk assessed and escalated as required. All calls are responded with two Care Support Workers.

• Support with meal preparation and medication support
• Promote independence
• Maintain accurate records of care provided
• Communicate effectively with families, supervisors and health professionals
• Follow safeguarding, infection control and health and safety procedures
• Driving the allocated van and ensuring van and equipment are maintained.

KNOWLEDGE

Jobholders must have previous experience of caring for clients with a range of complex needs; and experience of working without direct supervision in a situation requiring self-reliance. Jobholders must possess an SVQ 2 qualification in Social Care and work towards an SVQ 3 in Social Care.

The minimum actual salary for this position is £17.33 per hour.

Responsibilities

This post is considered Regulated Work with Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with Protected Adults.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Protected Adults, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you. Once you have submitted your application and this has been processed you will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.
