Job Vacancy

Midlothian Council is seeking applications for the position of Team Leader – Fleet and Plant, based at Bonnyrigg Depot.
This is an important role within the Council’s fleet and workshop operation, with a particular focus on fleet compliance, vehicle maintenance standards and the effective management of our Fleet and Plant Workshops.
The successful candidate will bring a combination of professional transport management knowledge, practical fleet, workshop and MOT station experience and a strong understanding of the legislative and compliance requirements associated with operating a diverse vehicle and plant fleet.
Working alongside the existing Fleet and Plant Team Leader, the post will have a particular focus on fleet compliance and governance, helping to ensure that appropriate systems, processes and records are in place to support the Council’s legal and operational responsibilities. This will include areas such as vehicle maintenance compliance, inspection and servicing arrangements, defect management, operator licence requirements, record keeping and monitoring of fleet compliance performance.
The role will also provide operational management and support across the Council’s Fleet and Plant Workshops. The successful candidate must therefore have sufficient workshop and technical knowledge to manage both workshop operations in the absence of the other Team Leader, ensuring workloads, staff, vehicle maintenance and operational priorities continue to be effectively managed.
Applicants should be comfortable working within a busy and reactive operational environment and be able to work effectively with workshop staff, drivers, managers, operational services, contractors and external suppliers.
A recognised professional qualification in transport management, such as the Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (TM CPC), or an equivalent relevant qualification, would be advantageous. For the right candidate who can demonstrate the required fleet compliance, transport and workshop knowledge, the Council will support their continued professional development, including the opportunity to work towards achieving the Transport Manager CPC.
The successful candidate will have access to Midlothian council’s generous staff pension scheme; salary sacrifice scheme and further staff discounts through partner organisations.
KNOWLEDGE
Educated to SCQF Level 7 (HNC level or equivalent technical/professional qualification) in a subject appropriate to the area of responsibility, or able to demonstrate significant relevant experience in a local authority of comparable size and complexity.
Experience of staff supervision, IT systems used in an office environment, project management and financial responsibility.
Clear evidence of commitment to continuing professional development.
