Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven Regional Transport Partnerships, established by the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005. As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services including bus stations and subsidised bus services, delivers projects directly and in partnership with others, and is responsible for preparation of the statutory Regional Transport Strategy for the West of Scotland.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accountant to join our Finance team, working directly with the Head of Finance. The role has the potential to cover all aspects of the finance function, but at present is primarily focused on Capital Accounting and Treasury Management. In addition, there will be direct supervision of both the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
The postholder will be a key member of the finance team and lead in the compilation of capital budgets and monitoring throughout the year. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for all associated government / statistical returns and grant claims. The post holder will be fully involved in year-end process and be responsible for producing statements and notes to the accounts, including all asset related works. In terms of Treasury management the post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all bank and associated reconciliations are carried out periodically and that SPT complies with the reporting requirements under the Treasury Management Code.
About you
The successful candidate will have a membership of a professional accountancy body. You will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure. Experience of accounting and budgeting in the public sector or other large organisations and detailed knowledge of the finance function, including year end closedown.
Full time hours will be 35 hours per week Monday to Friday. However, you may be required to undertake work outwith this norm to meet the responsibilities of the post.
Whilst you will be based at 131 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, SPT is currently operating a hybrid working scheme which allows 50% home working. Please note, this position falls into the low risk category under the Alcohol and Drugs policy and therefore is subject to for-cause testing procedures.
