The Access to Elected Office Fund, delivered by Inclusion Scotland and supported by the Scottish Government, is here to help disabled candidates with the costs of campaigning. Whether you are standing in Scottish Parliament or council elections, the Fund can provide practical support so you can focus on your campaign without any disability-related financial burden.

Who the Fund is For

The Fund is for anyone who may experience barriers linked to disability, including:

  • Disabled people
  • People who are neurodivergent
  • People with long-term health conditions
  • People with sensory impairments
  • People with mental health conditions

What the Fund Can Provide

We can cover disability-related costs that are directly connected to campaigning. This might include:

  • Assistive technology
  • Communication support (such as BSL interpreters or speech-to-text reporters)
  • Coaching or training
  • Personal assistance while campaigning
  • Accessible transport

How the Application Process Works

Applying for support can feel daunting; that’s why we’ve made the process clear and supportive at every stage:

  1. Get in touch: Email us at civicparticipation@inclusionscotland.org to let us know you’re interested.
  2. Talk through your needs: We’ll arrange a conversation to explore what barriers you might face with Ellen Blunsdon, our Access to Elected Office Coordinator.
  3. Assessment and planning: Together, we’ll identify the adjustments or resources that would make a difference.
  4. Approval and support: Once agreed, we’ll fund the support you need so you can focus on your campaign.
